We are making great strides in our mission to enact a moratorium on new factory farm construction and expansion in Minnesota. Our petition, aimed at gathering 1,000 signatures, has gained significant momentum with over 400 supporters on board. After promoting it at the Pride festival, we anticipate crossing the halfway mark! This will make a resounding statement. Our voices will be heard by our MN legislators.
Our approach to collecting petition signatures has shifted for the summer. We are incorporating petition gathering into outreach at summer festivals. As we raise awareness about the horrors of factory farming, we will also empower them to take action.
Our petition highlights the urgent need for change in factory farming laws because of their damage:
1.Environmental Impact: Factory farms are inflicting severe pollution upon our cherished environment. The manure and runoff they generate contaminate Minnesota’s pristine waterways and lakes, posing a grave threat to our ecosystem.
2. Animal Welfare: The horrifying reality of animals confined within minuscule quarters cannot be ignored. These innocent beings endure unimaginable suffering, as exemplified by the tragic fire incident in 2022, where nearly 200,000 chickens lost their lives in a single barn.
3.Exploitation of Workers: Factory farms and industrial slaughterhouses exploit vulnerable individuals, such as the distressing case of the Worthington and Marshall children found working in a meatpacking plant in 2022. These laborers deserve dignity and fair treatment.
If you haven’t yet signed the petition or shared it with your friends, we urge you to do so today. Together, we can amplify our impact and bring about significant change. Consider signing up to help gather signatures at our upcoming festivals. Let’s work together to protect Minnesota’s environment, animals, and people from further harm.
Remember, progress starts with us. Let’s take a stand against factory farms and create a better future for all.
