Vegan Food Drop: Feed Our Neighbors and Build Community

Date/Time
Monday, August 26, 2024
6:30pm - 8:00pm

Join us in helping improve food access and food justice in North Minneapolis by dropping off food to donate to the Food Trap Project. While there you will have the opportunity to get to know other like-minded community members and access vegan resources.

The Compassionate Action for Animals (CAA) office will be open from 6:30 to 8pm at 2100 1st Avenue South, Suite 200. Stop by at anytime during those hours.

What to Bring

Please bring a donation of one or more of the vegan food items listed below. These will then be picked up and distributed by the Food Trap Project to improve food access and food justice in North Minneapolis.

Examples include:

  • Flours
  • Bread
  • Nuts
  • Canned fruit
  • Canned vegetables
  • Seeds
  • Pasta and sauces
  • Shelf-stable plant milk
  • Dried fruit
  • Herbal teas
  • Rice & grains
  • Cooking oil
  • Dry beans

Donate here to support the Food Trap Project so that they can continue this important service. Please note that everyone is welcome to access the food regardless of their ability to donate.

Community Building

Meet others who care about animals, veganism, and food access during the donation drop off period. You’ll also get to meet a Compassionate Action for Animals (CAA) board and/or staff member who will be present.

When you donate you will get a vegan snack as a thank you and have an opportunity to participate in an activity where you can get to know others.  You will also able to learn more about CAA’s work.

Vegan Resources

While there, check out our collection of books, movies, and recipes that can help you learn more about the how’s and why’s of vegan eating. CAA has an extensive library of resources you can borrow. We also have pins, stickers, and coupons you can take as a gift.

Pilot of Monthly Food Drops at the Compassionate Action for Animals (CAA) Office

This event is the kick-off for a pilot of a monthly food drop for the Food Trap Initiative (FTP) at the CAA office. The next drop-off day will be on October 28.

In November we  decide whether to continue hosting them on a monthly basis. If so, they will be on the 4th Monday of the month.

Partnership Advances CAA’s Strategic Goals

This project moves forward the goals set for partnerships in CAA’s 2024-2027 Strategic Plan.

One of our three overarching goals is to:

“Enhance partnerships and collaborations for the well-being of all in Minnesota.

  • Partner with health groups, environmental justice groups, and animal advocacy groups
  • Focus on increasing the amount of plant-based food served in schools, making vegan options the default choice in some other settings, increasing food accessibility, and decreasing food waste
  • Act with an anti-racist, pro-equity and inclusion approach”

Learn more about the strategic plan.

Your participation as an event attendee, volunteer and donor is critical to helping us advance the “well-being of all in Minnesota.”

We look forward to seeing you at this event and others!
