A new branch of Compassionate Action for Animals has been approved by the Student Organization Board at Macalester College (St. Paul, MN). The branch will begin activities starting in February 2021. The organization plans to conduct meetings twice a month with a focus on teaching students about healthy, affordable plant-based options. Additional plans include collaboration with other Macalester student organizations, as well as the University of Minnesota CAA branch. This collaborative effort will focus on finding relevant and educational speakers to discuss plant-based diets and animal rights efforts with the students.
The branch intends to take meaningful action within Macalester and the local community by promoting plant-based options in the dining hall, limiting meat consumption, and working with local restaurants and plant-based businesses to promote these alternatives. In addition, the group has created MACCAA Instagram, Facebook and Twitter pages to cultivate interest in CAA and provide relevant information to followers. The organization will utilize graphic design skills to promote fundraisers, volunteer opportunities, bake sales, and other outreach activities.
Yosan Worota (Class of 2023) will be the chair of the student organization, and will be assisted by vice-chair Brody Fuller (Class of 2021). The group currently consists of ten members and hopes to expand in size when it is officially introduced as a student organization at the Macalester Student Involvement Fair on January 30, 2021.
