Volunteer Shout-Out: Hannah Baker

Hannah with her dog, Ruby

Meet Hannah Baker, one of the social media response volunteers for Compassionate Action for Animals. Learn about her work with us and what tips she has for people who are just getting started with plant-based eating.

How did you get involved with CAA?

I joined CAA’s U of M student group when I first went vegan in college.

What does your volunteer work entail?

I monitor CAA’s Facebook page and respond to comments and questions there.

What do you love most about volunteering?

I like knowing that I am making the world a better place for animals, even if it’s in a small way.

When you are not working on CAA activities, what do you enjoy doing?

I work for Reading Partners, managing students and volunteer tutors at an elementary school (virtually). In my free time I watercolor paint, spend time outdoors, and play with my dog, Ruby.

What advice would you give to new vegans?

Learn how to cook! Veggie burgers and pasta can get boring, so look up a veganized version of an old favorite and perfect the recipe. Basically anything can be veganized! The internet is your friend here — there are so many vegan food blogs. Eventually you may be able to impress your non-vegan friends and family with your cooking!
