Our 21-Day Challenge occurs in conjunction with Veganuary, a global movement that has established January as a month to embrace veganism. Veganuary has successfully encouraged millions of people to try a plant-based diet for January and beyond. Since its start, their one-month vegan pledge has garnered an incredible following. In 2023 more than 700,000 people officially signed up to try vegan with other studies by Veganuary indicating that millions more participated without signing up*! Their impact is also evident in the staggering growth of 1,610 new vegan products and menu options last year. In the United States alone, nearly 450 businesses have promoted Veganuary*!

Veganuary focuses on three vital areas of work:

  1. Encouraging and supporting millions of people to embrace veganism beyond January.
  2. Creating a significant media and social media presence to raise awareness of the benefits of choosing a vegan lifestyle.
  3. Encouraging companies to develop and launch delicious plant-based options, which enhances the quality, availability, and visibility of vegan food.

Through these efforts, Veganuary has contributed to saving the lives of millions of animals. Their work has also established Veganuary as a prominent event on the retail calendar. Numerous businesses eagerly participate and introduce new products. Remarkably, many of them remain on shelves and menus after January due to their immense popularity.

Why do CAA and Veganuary believe that it is important for individuals to take part in this challenge? Here’s an eye-opening statistic that can help you see why this work is important.  While many people believe they are buying “humane products,” around 94% of animals people eat* were raised on factory farms. On these farms, the bottom line matters more than anything else. They are businesses and their aim is to maximize profit. As such, they do not prioritize the health or wellbeing of workers, neighbors, the environment or the animals. In fact, these factory farms are extremely harmful in all these areas.

By joining our 21-day challenge, you can improve your own health and the health of the planet. Most importantly, you are also helping create a more compassionate world.
