Volunteer Shout-Out: Lauren Robinson

Meet CAA Volunteer, Lauren Robinson. Lauren recently helped us distribute Twin Cities Veg Living magazines to businesses throughout the Twin Cities. She’s been vegan for more than seven years, driven by her compassion for fellow beings. Read on to find out what inspires Lauren to pitch in and to maintain her commitment to a plant-based lifestyle.

What made you decide to get involved with CAA?

I actually found out about CAA before I moved to Minnesota! I knew I was going to be moving here, my sister already lived here and I asked her if she knew any vegans, and she connected me with someone in CAA. That was 4 1/2 years ago. I haven’t had much time to volunteer over the years, but now that my son is in school I plan to often! I want to be involved because I want to help more people become vegan!

What do you love most about volunteering?

When I volunteer I like the feeling that I may be making a difference in a few people’s lives, hopefully planting seeds of veganism. I also want to help the people who work at CAA have a lightened work load, even if it’s just a little bit.

When you are not helping out with CAA stuff, what do you like to do?

When I am not helping CAA I am being a mother, a new wife and step mother. I love spending time outdoors and with friends. I also practice yoga daily and love to bike, camp and garden.

What inspires you to eat plant-based and take action for animals?

I became vegan a couple of months after my son was born more than seven years ago. Breastfeeding my son and learning that cows are mammals just like us and only make milk for their babies all at the same time was really shocking and emotional for me. I felt a real connection to all the mother cows. I immediately became vegan. I could only see cows and their stolen babies when I looked at cheese and other dairy.
