I’m delighted to share that, thanks to support from Animal Charity Evaluators’ Effective Animal Advocacy Fund, we are adding a community organizer to our staff: Tamuno Imbu!
Tamuno’s primary job will be working with communities of color on events that promote plant-based eating and compassion for animals. This year, his primary focus will be on the African-American and Latinx communities. He will also work with our Wholesome Minnesota cafeteria change program, the Vegan Recipe Club program, and the new Explore Veg program, which provides challenges, online support, and optional mentors for those interested in trying a plant-based lifestyle. Happily, given current challenges, these are all activities that can be carried out online.
Tamuno has a strong history of working with diverse populations in the Twin Cities. He has helped young people develop leadership skills at Cookie Cart and helped fathers overcome barriers to support their children economically and emotionally with The Father’s Project. He also has event organizing, video, and online promotion skills.
Tamuno begins work this week. You’ll be hearing from him directly on our blog next week. Can’t wait to meet him? Join us at our Invisible Vegan Watch Party and Live Q&A with producer Jasmine Leyva on April 19, a kick-off to Twin Cities Veg Week, where he’ll be your host.
For now, we want to share our excitement about the ways he’ll be able to move our work for animals forward. If you’d like to help support this work, please consider joining our Circle of Care.
Many thanks to our hiring committee, which included current staff, two volunteers, and a board member, for their hard work in finding the right person for the job.
